With the advent of the revolution of 1848, Frankfurt was the seat of the National Assembly which was the first democratically elected German parliament. The first meeting was held in St. Paul’s Church. However, less than one year, the revolution ended up with failure.

Later, the city like other German cities, has suffered several wars, from the Thirty Years War to World War II, which nearly destroyed the outlook of the whole city.

Fortunately, after the sufferings during the wars, Frankfurt became the financial capital of Continental Europe and the transportation hub of Germany. It hosts the headquarters of the European Central Bank and the German Stock Exchange. Moreover, you can also enjoy some of the world’s most important trade shows in Frankfurt, such as the Frankfurt Auto Show and the Frankfurt Book Fair.
